I'm hoping you do too since you didn't leave an email addy. :)

I'm just guessing that you are talking about the Havamal and the person advice that it gives which I would suggest, is, well:

81. At eve the day is to be praised,
a woman after she is burnt,
a sword after it is proved,
a maid after she is married,
ice after it has passed away,
beer after it is drunk.

...perhaps a little harsh.

So I'm hoping you guys check your comments because I didn't see a spot that I could email you but I did have an idea for a topic. I'm not sure if you've covered it yet but relating the Havamal to relationships, married or otherwise and how we should look at those and treat those. I simply think it would be interesting to share with a friend of mine. By the way, thank you so much for providing this pod cast. It inspires me to do more and study more and spend more time focusing on where I need to open my life up to the Gods a bit more. So thank you!

S&D thanks for another wonderful podcast. Podcast #38 was of particular interest as my wife and I are raising two children. Your choice of parents Matt and Rey was an excellent one - lively, knowledgeable, and engaging.
Keep up the superb work with RavenCast. It means a tremendous amount to us.

I think what he meant when he said “it’s pretty easy to figure out who is what" was doing research about Folkish Asatru vs Universalist Asatru. You would want to figure out which way you lean in your own beliefs and associate with the group you are closest to.

Wow Sandi!
I am a periodic listener but i just now listened to your inteview on Hela. Honest. (You won't believe me when you look at my blog post from 8/2 here http://www.iceandfire.us/blog/stavBlog/?p=27)

I actually wrote because I wanted to point out the importance of family and hospitality to the people of the viking and pre-viking eras. She would really have no option other than to supply her father with what he needed for Ragnarok, especially if he approached her as a guest. I'm pretty sure she's neutral on the whole Ragnarok thing, but she is exposed to the opinions of and hurt by the injustice done to her family and blood ties and the rules of hospitality mean she must allow her father to recruit the maladjusted dead to sail in the ship, she must let him launch from her realm, and she must, regardless of her personal feeling, take part in avenging the injustice done to just about everybody ELSE in her family.

Oh, and just a note: I've found that if you refer to Jotuns as giants, you create an odd dichotomy in creative or visual people's minds (i always see Odin or Balder, at about man height and Skadi or Hela towering over him at an extreme height). Calling them Jotuns makes them just another clan like the Aesir and Vanir that we know, like the MacDonalds, and the MacDugals. Of course, Your Mileage May Vary.

Love the episode!
If you like Tyr, you'll like this painting:
http://fav.me/d28tfrr
As far as I know, I am the only painter who has tried this subject matter in this perspective.
I really FELT Tyr when I was painting this. I feel that he encouraged me in the idea, steadied my hand and calmed my mind when I wasn't so thrilled with some aspects of it. I kept with it, and now I have people both in and outside of my kindred (Falcon Kindred, Yelm,WA) asking me "so, when are the posters coming out?"
Hope you like!

Unfortunately, we got carried away when we did this one...

45 minutes of Video = 200 Meg.
45 minutes of Audio = 45 Meg.

As a result, attempting to watch the video at the website may take you a ridiculous amount of time on a good connection.

My suggestion is to download it if you can. If things are really bad then we may break it up into byte sized chunks.

Again, we apologize to folks - it's our first video. We'll do better.

Dave and Sandi I was just turned onto Ravencast and did a cast marathon. All I can say is wow. Very informative, funny and smart. Keep up the good work.

Hail!

P.s. How about a show on adoption and the faith, as it pertains to honoring the ancestors of whom you no nothing (which is my case).

Also Swindsohn, not all Seidhr-workers see things the same way, work in the same way or believe the same things so it wouldn't really do any good. There is no definitive answer on this

i was introduced into heathenry with a positive view of Hela. it was only after i started discussing the lore with the greater heathen community that i discovered that i was a minority of sorts. so it's always refreshing to hear someone else with a similar attitude.

valgard murray granted has done much for the odinist asatru comunity, though if everyone wuold please look into his deposition that he gave to the federal government, on behalf of the state of ohio, we will see some very disturbing statements made by valgard please look into this and make your own judgment. odinism is steeped in the ideals of honor and truth, valgard failed on that part.

You guys get into soul-matrix quite a bit-it in this one. It would be interesting if you guys could interview a seidrkona or seidrmahdr and she what they could offer about the heathen concept of the soul, I think many people would find it a thought provoking interview.

Hail, Dave! I particularly enjoyed this episode. I think you are right-on in your observations about the main purpose of the Thing (and to some degree of our modern justice system) as being keeping the peace, reaching settlements, not justice per se. Also that Tyr, while an examplar of bravery and taking personal responsibility, is not necessarily a paragon of honor/honest dealing, since he took part in the gods' deception of Fenrir. One area you did not delve into, which I'd be interested in your take on, is Tyr in his older aspect as Teiwaz, possibly an original sky-father kind of god. Anyway, good show!

This was a really awesome podcast and I really enjoyed hearing more of Mike Smith's thoughts on the topic. Somehow when I had been getting the casts from iTunes, this one got skipped! It's okay, though, it was wonderful and definitely worth the unintentional wait!

Thank you so much. I just found this on iTunes and hunted down the website so I could say thanks :)

I didn't understand why I was the only person who had Loki as a patron that wasn't a total douche and/or loser. Now I know there's at least one other - it's a relief!

It's always great to hear other peoples views and feelings about the Gods, and it's good to hear others who have insights that you may not have considered or thought about before. Rick Oberg's views made me think and consider other possibilities as well, and that is what is important to me.

Great podcast (as always)! I love this series you've been doing. It's fascinating to see how different people view their relationships with the Gods/Goddesses. I love having those moments of "ah, I never looked at it like that before". It's also a treat to find a parallel thought or two as I did here.

Looking forward to the next episode.

hello Dave and Sandi! Greetings from the U.K !
I loved this episode, very inspiring. I was listening to it at my work and I remember feeling moved by Joe Marek's blessing at the end.
Many thanks and carry on with the good work!

I just listened to this cast and found it quit interesting and entertaining. I was born in the US, but ethnically I'm fully German so it was nice to get a perspective from that end. I can't comment on all the technical aspects everyone else has been commenting on, but I like the episode.

Excellent interview. Ann autographed a copy of her book to me before a blot last June at Gladsheim. I haven't been able to find any other books on Frey that I am aware of. Another excellent podcast and an excellent book on Frey as well. I would highly recommend her book also. Again, thank you for another great interview.

I'm so glad to hear someone else say that a God has called out to them. Several years ago I stated on a message board that I felt Tyr calling to me and was roundly criticized for it. That a God would lower him/herself to commune with a mere man. Now I feel vindicated. There are not any Asatrur around here that I know of, so theses podcasts are my only connection to the greater community. Thank you.

Thanks for a great show on Odin, can't wait for next month.

Excellent podcast with Joe Marek. I would have liked more time spent talking about Odin but the quality of this podcast was very good. I enjoyed it a great deal as I do all of your podcasts. Many good points were made and the interview was very interesting. You did a great job Joe. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings about Odin.

Hi Dave & Sandi. I enjoyed this interview, thank you. 30 mins is pretty short for an Odin podcast but contained quality.
Both Joe Marek & Kveldulf Gundarson mention of Edred's work. Any chance of a podcast with Edred?
The ECT sounds pretty cool, living in Australia, we don't have anything like that.
Once again, thanks - look forward for the next 'cast.

I liked the interview, although I seemed to have some problems with the bitrate. It was nice to hear something about Eir, who is one of the lesser spoken of and written about Goddesses. She is probably one of those deities who could benefit greatly from some reconstruction by looking at neighbouring religions (mending Eir by bandaging with other religions if you will).

It's great to have a podcast about the runes, and I hope it won't be the last. I'm wondering how much work with the runes the two of you (Dave and Sandy) do. Personally, the runes were my "gateway" into Asatru, and I've been studying both the religion and the runes simultaneously.

Funny, Orthodoxy and Asatru. People have always tried to define such a thing, but between folkish willful ignorance and SCA dramaticism we've had difficulties finding a real spiritual theology outside Jungian and Dumezilian theories...which supplies us with dogma without root, so people have scrambled to indoctrinate themselves to Thorsson's paradigm. People need to remember Asatru is a New Religious Movement, not a tradition. It'll take generations to define any "orthodoxy".

I like the idea of this new series, guys. And you started off with a BANG!
Ann has always been considered to be one of the brightest bulbs in the Northeast Asatru community, and exposing her to the world via your podcast is fantastic!
Well done, Ann. And well done, ye Ravencasters!

Wow, Im begining to think that modern Asatru is becoming the fastest religion to ever reach orthodoxy, if you listen to the nay-sayers and the "If we dont believe it, its wrong."
Wow. Kind of sad really.
I love your podcasts. Keep up the great work.

The only thing at ECT that I really wanted to attend but couldn't due to time constraints, and you tape the whole thing! Thanks guys! Very interesting, and made even more so by the fact that its a topic that is 'fresh' - not seomthing I've heard a lot of discussion about before.
(BTW, it DID finally show up in my iTunes.)

Are you familiar with Might Is Right by Ragnar Redbeard? The books concerns itself with ethics and morality in the mind of the "modern viking," of sorts, as it is based on ancient Teutonic thought as ascribed to the European or European-American man in the late 19th Century.

I was really looking forward to this interview, but I have not been able to listen to it due to the poor audio quality (I listen to podcasts during my morning/evening commute, and there is just no amount of fiddling that makes this listenable in my vehicle). I'll have to try sitting in a quiet room with headphones ... if I can set aside that much time.

I was actually fortuate enough to have purchased one of Lavran's lyres after many years of drooling over them. They are excellent, well-made, and sound fantastic! (Even when played by a guy l;ike me with three left thumbs.)

The ending song was incredible!

A great interview, though a little hard to hear (but headphones plus volume control sorted that).
I don’t really go into runes my self due to the fact that I’ve still my nose in books trying to get grounded on the rest of the religion with the lore (though I’m mostly through the main sagas (and the edda’s of coarse)) and other books I’ve been recommended to read. So this was a very helpful synopsis of someone who has gone into the runes, thanks and keep up the good work!
