Episode 28 - Frey, a discussion with Ann Sheffield

This month Dave and I are going to kick off a group of interviews that will focus on a specific god or goddess. Ann Sheffield was very gracious to join us to speak about her research on Frey. Ann is a long standing member of the Northeast US Asatru community and well known for her detailed scholarship. She wrote a book about her research on Frey called “Frey, God of the World“. Our discussion focuses on how Frey is much more than a fertility god. Ann references Viga-Glum’s Saga, Heimskringla, and Skirnismal as starting points for her research as well as the website http://www.heimskringla.no/enindex.php. We hope you find this interview as enlightening as we did!

See you next month and Merry Yule!!!!

  3. I like the idea of this new series, guys. And you started off with a BANG! Ann has always been considered to be one of the brightest bulbs in the Northeast Asatru community, and exposing her to the world via your podcast is fantastic! Well done, Ann. And well done, ye Ravencasters!

  4. Wonderful podcast Sandi and Dave. Always a pleasure to listen to you guys. Awesome topic matter and Ann covered many areas that I agreed with, I was getting a bit bored of the whole Frey is just a fertility god that most people think of.

  9. Excellent interview. Ann autographed a copy of her book to me before a blot last June at Gladsheim. I haven’t been able to find any other books on Frey that I am aware of. Another excellent podcast and an excellent book on Frey as well. I would highly recommend her book also. Again, thank you for another great interview.
